A 17th Century Carved Oak Coffer.

West country Dorset Circa 1660

This chest is of a rare design the front carved with wyverns and beasts in a friendly not scary way.

Of joined construction the front consists of three panels that has a central panel with a pair of beasts looking at each other flanked by panels of wyverns in a circle with heads touching tails ,the top rail also with wyverns.

In good untouched condition with a very good colour and good height with a small piece of sap dammage to the lid.

This is the second chest of this design i have owned in the past 25 years and i have seen two more in old catalogues which makes it pleasing to have found.
