A Pair Of Charles I Oak Joint Stools.

Gloucestershire Circa 1630.

These wonderful and rare stools are of good height, the seat with thumb-moulded edges and pegged to each corner, shallow lunette-carved rails, raised on parallel-baluster and ball-turned legs, joined by plain stretchers.

Traces of old sap damage to the inside of one of the legs,a small lose to the side rail and a square infill has been put to one top corner and they all have had the feet trimmed to level up at some time (not tipped).

It amazes me that we dont see more pairs and quadruples of stools as the amount made would have been huge but i guess time has made them fly the nest and survive on their own.

Good condition and colour.

An identicle stool although in fruitwood sold at Bonhams The Oak Sale ,The collection of  Graham and Susan James 3rd May 2015 lot no 373.
