This wonderful Beam end is carved depicting an Abbess with book in one hand and a crozier in the other.

An Abbess is the female superior or governess of a nunnery, or convent of nuns, having the same authority over the nuns which the abbots have over the monks.

A nice chunky carving with good definition ,it is presented in good order it has traces of old worm and has been cut from a larger beam for ease of display.
