This 16th century newel post is carved in the round and modeled as a lion sejant erect, with flowing curly mane and fierce aspect, the collars of fur, the front paws resting upon a scroll-edged shield.

Precise carving with detail to the back and rib cage.

A good colour and natural patina a figure that presents well .
