A Very Impressive Chip Carved Oak Candle Box.

Mid Wales/Friesland Circa 1650

This interesting box is constructed from oak boards Profusely carved all over with geometric-filled roundels to all four sides and the front with twin panels the top flapping down in a satchel fashion still retaining its original hinges,the underside of the flap is scribed with a geometric floral roundel.The plain backboard with a spiky top border and cut out hook hold.

In very good condition with an untouched surface with an almost crackle skin from years of dirt build up,the top latch has long gone and it now fastens with a piece of string. 
A gnarly box that I am very happy to have found and be able to handle.
