A Rare 17th Century Carved Oak Slope Box.

English Circa 1620

This rare box is constructed to a very high standard.The lid which is a single panel in a moulded and joined frame over a sloped carcass carved with lunette designs to all four sides and terminating on an applied moulded plinth with ogee cut outs.

This small box is in very good order. The hinges are period replacements. It is of a very good colour and patina.

This box was designed to sit on a centre table as it is carved to all four sides so as to be admired from any angle.

It is rare to find a box of this size and to find one that is carved to all four sides is even rarer.
