A 19th Century Rare Copper Rushlight.

Mid Wales

A copper rushlight with a plain bar stem closed coil counterweight and flat jaws with a large domed rivet on a fruitwood base with old paint.

The shape and coiled bullseye counterweight give this rushlight a firm sculptural stance.

In Robert Ashley :The rushlight and related holders .

He mentions on page 231 to date all copper examples found are attributed to mid Wales and shows two images one also with a coiled counterweight.
