A Rare 18th Century Oak Alms Box Dated 1795.

A wonderful German oak alms box with the verse "Gedenk Den Armen" which is Dutch for "Remember The Poor" is painted to each side with the date 1795 to the front.

Constructed from oak with dovetailed sides and a lid with a molded edge.

Retaining all original ironwork and key, the hasp with a hinge, and the escutcheon with a lockable slide.

A great find and a chunky box with a good colour and patina.
