An 18th Century Carved Walnut Rampant Lion.

A European Carved Walnut Figure of a Rampant Lion Supporting the Heraldic Shield of a Flamboyant R Over a Horse, dated 1755.

The lion's face is very characterful, whereas the shield is primitively carved humorously, I hope that the family who commissioned this did not ask for a stallion as they seem to have gained a shetland.
Carved in the round with a flat back he stands very proud.
It is a good color with a darker patina to his head and nose, showing signs of old worm damage that have long gone.
