A Rare English Copper Alloy Socket Candlestick.

England 1400-1450

Having a straight-sided candleholder decorated with faint lines beneath its rim and to its middle, the stem centred by a blade knop, raised on a ( circular and slightly dished base with domed centre

This rare early candlestick is part of a group recognised as the earliest form of stable candlestick which can be said to have been manufactured in England in the late 14th and 15th centuries. This example, with its fairly simple decoration and only slightly domed base, is from the first half of that period. Later examples are more highly decorated.
