15th C English Oak Misericord Edward of Westminster.

How exciting is this ?

England Circa 1460

An extremely rare English oak misericord depicting Edward Of Westminster ,Prince of Wales.

Here depicted with the bust of the Prince flanked by Ostrich feathers and vine leaf supporters.

Edward was born at the Palace of Westminster, London, the only son of King Henry VI of England and his wife,Margaret of Anjou.Edward was invested as Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle in 1454.

Edward is the cause of The War Of The Roses (1455–85), in English history, the series of dynastic civil wars whose violence and civil strife preceded the strong government of the Tudors. Fought between the houses of Lancaster and York for the English throne, the wars were named many years afterward from the supposed badges of the contending parties: the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster.

Edward died on 4th May 1471 at the age of 17 at the battle of Tewkesbury and is buried at the Abbey.

Apart from a rough portrait made after Edwards death there are no other known depictions of him ,which makes this a very exciting discovery.
