A 17th Century Oak Enclosed Yeomans Chair.

This wonderful oak chair of large proportions is of joined construction with enclosed sides and front ,perfect draught excluders on a chilly night.

The shaped crest rail with a plain panel back with enclosed sides ,rope seat over a plain panelled front with open sides to the bottom half.

Almost a lambing chair but definately one for the fireside and talking of the fireside there is a burn hole to the top corner of the front panel probably a heavy evening of ale and not paying attention to candles or logs.

A great chair with oodles of country charm and character

Once the property of  Elton M Hyder JR .with plaque to side stretcher.

Elton M. Hyder, Jr. was a highly accomplished graduate of University of Texas law school. His service as Assistant to the State of Texas Attorney General in the 1940’s, led to his appointment on the prosecution team for Japanese war criminals of World War II. It was during the time of these trials that he met and married Martha Rowan, daughter of the Rowan Oil Companies founder, Charles Rowan.

The Hyders traveled the world collecting art, furniture, and documents, mostly related to law.

By the mid 1960’s they had acquired quite a large collection. They arranged with the University of Texas School of Law to loan items of their growing collection to the Tarlton Law Library. Martha enjoyed placing the furniture and other objects, decorating the various rooms.
