A FRENCH GOTHIC REVIVAL SILVERED AND PARCEL GILT BRONZE TABLE CASKET.

THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY

The domed cover applied with shield engraved with monogram, over a rectangular case, each corner with niche enclosing a figure of a monarch, the whole bound with pierced strapwork and engraved with scrolling vines grapes leaves and buds,the lockplate and hasp decorated with a mouse, interior engraved Alph Giroux et Cie - a paris with a later purple velvet interior.
 
The Maison Alphonse Giroux was established in 1799 by François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux, specializing in the production and sale of small items of furniture, "objets d'art, de fantaisie et de papeterie." In 1838, the company was taken over by Giroux's two sons, Alphonse-Gustave and André, who under the name of Giroux & Cie continued and expanded the business, showing and frequently winning medals at the Exposition des produits de l'industrie française. In 1857, the business relocated to 43, boulevard des Capucines, where it remained until 1867.An essential place in the production of refined gifts, Louis XVIII and Charles X chose there New Year gifts of the young Princess Louise and the Duke of Bordeaux, this box probably comes from a private order, to be judged by the initial monogram affixed to the lid.
