A Dated Yorkshire Oak and Inlaid Coffer 1672

This outstanding chest is carved with birds and inlaid with holly and bog oak ,the three plank top over a carved top rail with floral motifs and a central date of 1672 flanked by a pair of birds over a three panel front carved with floral motifs with an inlaid border,single panel sides again with an inlaid border.

In good condition and colour the left hand back leg has been tipped.

Two chairs with the same bird design can be seen in Victor Chinnery Oak Furniture The British Tradition Figures 4:128 and 4:129 and a chest in Rufford Hall Lancashire.
