A 16th Century Carved Oak Caryatid.

English circa 1580

Carved as a male with his arm in a sling shoulder length hair and a ruff around his neck.

Possibly West Country in dry untouched condition with traces of grey paint.

An old label to the back :Exhibit no16 ,Carved Palaster Figure xvi Century,H.HUGHES-STANTON ESQ RA RWS.

Sir Herbert Edwin Pelham Hughes-Stanton was a recognised British watercolour and oil painter, predominantly of landscapes and a full member of the Royal academy.
