A James I Carved Oak Chest Depicting Caryatids.

The single plank top over three foliate carved panels, these being flanked by quirky male and female caryatids the frieze rails also carved with a foliate design being flanked with applied grotesque masks.

Carved to a high standard this chest is a very fine example with a good colour and surface showing faint traces of polychrome to the panels.

Later hinges and old traces of insect damage to the lid.
