An English Gothic Oak Aumbry.

This fine 19th century Gothic oak aumbry constructed in the 16th century manner and possibly of Wardour Street manufacture .

The three plank top over verticle end boards the central door with Gothic tracery apertures flanked to either side by a  board, cut away at the base and decorated with a series of four Gothic lancet pierced apertures.

Pegged all round with butterfly hinges and age splits to two boards,internally with a middle shelf ,the back of all tracery showing nails where the linen was attached to stop insects from entering .

A heavy solid item of furniture with a dry natural surface,in my opinion this is the closest you could come to achieve the look of a medieval kitchen without a lifetime of  searching for an original .

There is an identicle original example in the collection of Haddon Hall which this example may have been copied from.
