A 17th Century Oak And Elm Six Plank Chest.

This simple early 17th century boarded chest just oozes country charm,constructed with an oak planked body and an elm lid .

The sides slightly flare the front and back at the feet with a simple v cut out strap hinges exposed at the back and to the top of the lid but the gem of this chest is the lockplate which had been replaced with a period lock with a make do and mend country blacksmith repair to fill a hole under the plate.

The top like toffee the sides with years of grime and standing with a slight lean and twisted side obviously a treasured piece to have been repaired in the 19th century and cherished ever since.
