A Rare Early 17th Century Oak Board Chest.

Of six plank design ,still standing at its original height with Gothic cusped arch cut outs to the sides, in original condition including strap hinges,hasp and lockplate,the interior with till and lid .The side with owners initials branded SA.

Overall a good colour and patina.

What makes this chest stand out from the usual boarded chests we see of six plank design is the original moulded rail with shaped apron.The edges of the chest to include the lid,side cut outs and bottom of apron are all chamfered with a punch work design of a cruciform flanked by two vertical lines.

A fine example seldom seen recently acquired from a Kentish collection.
