A Mid 17th Century Oak Wainscot Chair.

The crest rail finely scribed with interlacing scroll design over twin panels carved with foliate and scroll design over a plank seat flanked by down sloping arms, raised on bobbin-turned legs joined by a box stretcher.

A chair with a wonderful colour and patina also a chair that has been in constant use now showing its scars .At some stage the seat was upholstered showing the nail marks along the side rails where the cloth was attached in doing this the sides of the seat have been cut tight to the sides and there is filler to three areas of the feet /side rails.

This chair was purchased in the1950's from Sam Wolsey in London by the American collector Mrs Elinor Appleby while living in London at the time and there is a collection label to the underside with a brief description,dimensions collection code incl wolsley name.
