A 17th Century Thomas Dennis Chest.

This joined oak chest is elaborately carved with a three panel front with botanical motifs and numerous other structural and ornamental traits comparable to the documented practices of the Dennis workshop based at Ottery St Mary Exeter.

 

The underside of the lid has three initials W over I M and on the internal back panel a label from the House of Lords, with the owner’s name, Mrs Ogden 1958.

 

This chest is one of the finest from this group of chests to come to the market still retaining its original spandrels and beading to the front of the lid.Dimensions are

56" wide

24.5" Deep

32" High
