A Rare English Henry VIII Oak Chest.

Circa 1500-1520

This late medieval chest was in my opinion commissioned by a tradesman or yeoman as the carved front is pretending to be grander than it is ,chip carved to represent five panels that when viewed from afar look more elaborate than they actually are, almost representing wall panelling but done on a country budget.

Constructed from riven oak boards the sides with V cut outs all the boards have twisted slightly over time giving this chest character and life original wire hinges and lockplate.

A fine and rare chest for the Henry VIII collector.
