A 17th Century Carved Oak Chest

West country circa 1640

This fine chest recently purchased from an East Sussex estate where it has been lovingly cared for for the past 40yrs has a plank top with the initials and later date of WC 1751,the front is heavily carved with foliate quatrefoils and an S-scrolled frieze a typical design from the west country.

In good condition with an outstanding colour and surface ,the interior still retaining its till and lid.

The center panel would have possibly had an applied coat of arms which has long gone showing the scribe lines to centralise it and the facing rear left hand leg has been braced .
