An Important Late Elizabethan Carved Oak Mural Cupboard.

Of architectural form with side split pilasters the inlaid frieze in box and holly over a pair of doors with inlaid frames, turned balusters over a perforated scrollwork panel with central inlaid motif over three inlaid door flanked by carved caryatid figure heads.

The single board sides carved with a leaf the interior with a single shelf with punchwork design to the front edge,planked back boards still retaining 18th century hand painted wall paper lining.

In very good condition and outstanding quality construction.

This piece incorporates fretwork and turned spindles as decorative devices.This was a practical solution as it provided ventilation for the food stuufs that were stored within.Hung on the wall to avoid vermin these cupboards were richly decorated and would have been a focal point within a room.
