A Rare Welsh Oak Cup Board.

Recently aquired from a Family Farm on the outskirts of Dolgellau where by repute it has always stood.

Welsh circa 1610.

Of small proportions with the best colour and patina i have seen for a while the single thin plank top with moulded edge over a guilloche carved thin top rail with a deep single drawer with carved nulling that continues to the sides ,parallel-sided baluster turned legs united with a single boarded base with guilloche carved rail with square back legs .

The facing right hand side has wear to the carving and the guilloche carving to the bottom rail is missing.

This cupboard has been reduced from a three tier showing signs to each corner of the top board every part of this cup board is original with no repairs or replacements.

Although reduced in height the rareity and form and fact that this piece has not come to market for at least three generations is i think quite special.

36” wide

28.5” high

A very similar example is shown in colour in Chinnery Oak Furniture the british tradition page 271 fig  3:247(revised edition)
