A Rare Gloucestershire Carved Oak Chest

This rare Late Elizabethan oak chest is profusely and deeply carved .

The front framed with applied decoration forming three arcaded panels, being flanked by four caryatids two with one arm tucked beneath a sash the other two with arms folded,the three main panels carved with botanical imagery with S-scroll columns beneath the arches.

The sides with continuing lunnette top rail over twin plain panels with a planked top with moulded edge and still standing at its original height.

In good condition with its original iron ring hinges and internal till with lid,a very good colour and patina,the three front panel have split over time and our backed with a strip of hesian .

A fine Gloucester Chest, a style rarely seen as chests , this style usually appear as bed heads and overmantles  .
