A 17th Century Carved Armorial Panel.

A rare find this late 17th century carved oak panel depicts the royal coat of arms of Charles II..

Made to commemorate the restoration of Charles II to the English throne in 1660 with images representing England (three Lion Passants); France (Fleur-de-Lis);Scotland (Rampant Lion): and Ireland (Harp) and would probably have been in a court house as opposed to a royal residence

The carving of this panel is the standard one would expect to find on a high status item with fine detailed carving and the centre bows out to give it shape and this panel would have been the centre of a larger piece flanked by the lion and unicorn.

Unfortunately the polychrome has long gone revealing a mellow colour showing the grain pattern of the quality oak chosen for this important carving.

8" (20cm) Wide

10.5" (27cm) High.

Carvings of this quality rarely come to market and i feel privileged to have sourced this example
