A fine16th century English profile panel.

English Circa 1540

Depicting a wealthy and well groomed Tudor gentleman within a laurel wreath and with a large hop to each corner.

Possibly depicting a hop merchant or wealthy farmer and the hops representing his trade.

Hops were introduced to Maidstone Kent at the end of the 15th century and by the middle of the 16th century generated a lot of wealth for the surrounding area this can still be seen today with lots of large timber framed farmhouses and merchant houses in this region.

Recently aquired from a fellow dealer in the U.S and although i can not provenance the panel to Kent or surrounding area it is very probable that it is.

I am based 30miles from maidstone so maybe it has come as close to home as it can.

Very fine carving with a clean surface .

10"(26cms) Wide

12"(31cms) High
