A Very Rare Late Medieval Psalm Casket.

A beautiful and rare French Monastic casket from the 15th century.

Fruitwood Circa 1480

The front and sides carved with Gothic script with dogtooth borders and iron strap hinges, middle bar and handle.

The facing left hand side with the word ORA meaning PRAY.

The front with the word PLMIA meaning PSALM

The right side with the word AILR or AILC which i am still working on translating .

This is an important Monastic box to hold the book of Psalm hence no locking mechanism ,my research shows me that it is extremely rare to find full script to three sides ,the examples i have researched are fully iron bound with locks and only part script ,used for the safe keeping of valuables and most are from the Upper Rhine region where as this is French as German Gothic script is different in style.
