A Late 15th Century Iron Missal Box.

A Wrought Iron Missal Box bounded in studded straps with sprung lock and key. The rectangular box with slightly domed lid each side with two loops

Circa 1480

Called a coffret a mailles or a la maniere d'Espagne, this type of iron box was often used for hand-illuminated prayer books, which were cherished and expensive objects.

Condition is good ,it has been used as a money box at some stage in its history with a slot being made to the top and the key is later.please get in touch for further images and a condition report.
