A Tudor Oak Panel Carved With A Griffin.

English circa 1540

Carved on a riven board this rare panel depicts a mythical griffin central in a roundel of vines with twisted buds to the ends within a thick bordered edge.

In good condition ,cut at bottom edge and a nibble to the top right hand rebated edge.

Probably from a cupboard or coffer a good panel with a dry unwaxed surface.

10.5" wide

14.5" high

Traces of polychrome to the edges and back.
