Four Henry VIII Period Panels Depicting Dragons And Beasts

Circa 1540

This wonderful set of four Tudor oak panels depict a romayne profile ,possibly the man who commissioned these carvings,a bird with a bearded mans face coming out of a dragons mouth,a dragon spurting a man from his mouth who is then spurting out another and a dragon bird with a naked man on his head holding a banner above his (oh the mind of the early carvers strange but fascinating),i am sure there is a meaning in there somewhere .

All deeply carved with a good patina and surface.

It is rare to find panels with dragons and so many beasties together .

These panels must originate from the west country as i also have another set of four panels listed that are from the same workshop which depict a wyvern a design that is  typical of the West County .

Originally panels from a piece of furniture or wall panelling.

A joy to find a complete set of four that have managed to stay together for so long.

In good condition with good colour and patina ,age cracks and traces of old worm .

I also have another set of four panels from the same workshop listed depicting Fish wyverns.
