The hairy beast squeezed into this panel with his tree club over his left shoulder twisted to form a cornucopia representing the abundance of the forest and in his right hand is a Pennon or banner that originaly would have had a motto painted on it and his face is a wonder that scares and also makes you smile ...

 

The Woodwose or Hairy Wildman of the woods was the big foot of Medieval Europe,he lived in the woods like an animal but also had human characteristics like this chap who has big feet with wriggling toes and human hands he was a link between civilised humans and the wild forrest ,also known as the woodwose or wudewasa,he has such a richly intertwined history of folklore, depictions in medieval art and architecture, examples can be found in.

Carved in Chestnut or a fruitwood this chunky panel was once used as a door as it shows the oxidisation marks of previous hinges.Deep and accurate carving this is a mesmorising panel that one has to have eye contact with.
