A Rare Early 17th Century Oak Low Stool.

This is a good solid little stool with a lovely surface that dates to circa 1620-1640.

The square-edged top which is fixed with eight pegs running the depth of the rails over broad run-moulded rails with a dog-tooth punched decoration with a finer lunette infill all showing traces of original red paint, inverted baluster-turned legs joined by a rare design of relatively flat plain stretchers..

Solid and one you want to pick up and hug ,slight loses to the turning and heavy wear to the top but i can not state what an interesting stool this example is.

A similar example was sold at the Clive Sherwood collection and is featured in Tobias Jellinek's book Early British Chairs and Seats 1500-1700 page 249

16.5" Wide

11.5" Deep

14.5" High.

No doubt one for the collector...
