An Early 17th Century Welsh Oak Coffer.

Recently discovered in a Farm Building in Wadhurst East Sussex.

This chest of boarded construction has the most wonderful dry natural surface that has not seen a coat of wax in years with a biscuit colour , crusty strap hinges and still retaining its full height , its a coffer with presence.

The front carved with bulls eyes in a geometric design ,the sides with simple cut outs.

The carved roundels to the front are associated with furniture from Mongomeryshire and Radnorshire and are examples are featured in Chinnery and Bebbs books on early oak furniture,
