An English Medieval Oak Corbel.

Depicting a bearded donor or prophet with a scroll in his hands

Circa 1460

Carved in the round this rare carving originates from the northern part of England due to the dark dense colour of the timber.

For its age it is in good condition showing sap damage to the center of the rings and slight beetle damage to the edges,it is a remarkable pre-reformation survivour of early medieval craftmanship carved by a master carver.

To my knowledge and research there are only around a Dozen English medieval oak corbels currently for sale in this country and this being one of them.
