An English Tudor Stone Dogs Head .

With it's mouth wide open, trefoil ears, furrowed brow and wide eyes.

Possibly depicting a bull mastiff, the Englische Dogge was the most prized hunting mastiff in Central Europe in  medieval times. Until the thirteenth century in England, a mastiff-type dog was  called a 'docga', an Old English word, still retained on mainland Europe as  dogge in Germany, dogue in France and dogo in Spain.

I am unsure if this is from a church or private house but a well carved pooch all the same.

9" Wide

8" Deep

9" High

In good condition and colour.
