A Late 16th Century Profile Panel

I love this one as it is so different to all the other profile panels currently on the market

This example which originates from Kent shows a Hop with a face within a roundel with hop bines to each corner.

Hops were first planted in Kent ,near Canterbury in the 1520's and the first Act concerning the licensing of  intoxicating liquor was passed in 1552.

So my interpretation is that this is a panel to celebrate the hop harvest and BEER.

Looking at the hop i would say he has had to much before modelling for the carver or maybe that is the carver had to much before starting work .

Now how's that as a conversation piece.

10" wide

14" high

In good condition with a small loss to the bottom left hand corner and with a good colour and patina
