A Rare 19th Century Lifesize Carved Wooden Blackamoor Head.

Creepy or cool you decide, this life size head is carved from pine with glass eyes that follow you around the room.

I presume it is a tobacco advertising piece as the blackamoor was often used for this purpose usually wearing a head-dress of tobacco leaves but to be honest it is a guess as i can not find anything similar in my research.

There is a French brass plaque to the back with BILLARD FAIT PAR,MAURICE AGE DE 67 in a circle and LEPSIER in the center.

So could it be from a billiard room in france i just do no know.

Anway to me its cool ,he would have had a ring through his nose that was attached to the back of the head with a bolt this has partly gone and he has a iron base that show he was slotted on a stand.

A talking point and rare piece of folk art.
