A Rare 16th Century Heavily Carved Bible Box.

The front carved with a pair of dolphins with entwined vines spouting from there mouths and the sides with a form of double S-scroll.

Single plank top with original butterfly hinges and original paper rail pegged to the front of the lid.

The lockplate is a later addition and there is an old crack to the base and a loss to the right hand corner ,also the applied moulding that would have framed the base has unfortunately gone.

Still an amazing early box in my opinion with great carving.

Possibly Welsh and circa 1580.
