An 18th Century Scottish Elm Arm Chair Dated 1755.

Of large proportions this chair came from a family on The Isle Of Lewis and is constructed in a simple manor the single panel back framed and joined and slotted into a solid elm plank seat with four staved legs.

A very sculptural chair with a huge rake when viewed from the side, the arms are of a caqueteurse form and the seat has a subtle bow to it.

It has been suggested to me that the rails could be Silver Fir a tree that was brought to the UK in the beginning of the 17th century and thrived in mountain regions so this is plausible.

The single back panel has a calm flowing grain pattern with two knot holes that have been filled with filler although this was done along time ago ,also two old iron studs have been used to secure the left hand arm which just add to the stories of its long, useful life.

The frame is of pegged construction and the top rail is dated 1755.

A large chair that although clumsy in appearance is extremely comfortable.

22" Wide

17" High To Seat

44.5" High To Back

17.5" Deep Seat

In my opinion no true conception of this noble chair can be formed from reading the description of it.
