A fine Mid 17th Century English Oak Coffer Of Small Size.

Circa 1640

This board chest is constructed of six thick planks all with a double edge moulding including the cut outs and back board,a feature that is seldom seen in these simple chests.

The front and rear boards over hang the side boards by 1" ,again this is a country style ,so the quality timber used shows that this was not made on a small budget.

The sides with a cut out cusped arch with v cut to the top,the arch with chamfered edge .

Later period lock plate and hasp and one period replaced hinge.

Good colour and condition,a chest that stands well.
