A rare 18th century carved oak newel post.
Depicting what i feel is the reaper seated ,hood off with a dog between his legs,the dog with what appears to be goat legs.
More research is needed on this item as it is rare to find skulls or the reaper depicted in carvings accept from momento mori depictions.
