What can i say ,just look at it for a moment
A truly magnificent mid 18th century stick chair with wonderous sculptural form.
The panelled back in a primitive frame with a comb top,the flat outward shaped arms also of scuptural form with elbow rests as well as plate sized hand rests, over a string seat and standing on three splayed legs.
This unusual and organic chair is comfortable and has a beautifully crusted surface of green paint that has turned almost black in places, worn through revealing the glorious colour and grain on parts of the seat, arms and back.
29.5" wide
16" deep at seat
45" high.
I have never seen a primitive chair of this form before and i am amazed at its great original condition .
Circa 1780 ,as the standard of living improved ,primitive chairs were made.By whom and for whom it is difficult to say.For certain, these items did not find their way into the squire's house and they were almost entirely rural.
So to end a magnificent rural stick back chair.
